SATURDAY OF THE 1ST WEEK OF ADVENT

4TH DECEMBER 2021

GOD’S CARE FOR HIS PEOPLE

Most of the people of today face difficulty to realize that God is present in their life, in their past, in their experience and in their present situation. Sometimes we become blind to the presence and care of God, our Creator, in our life. This is not because God has really abandoned his creatures. No, God loves his creatures; He loves them all without discrimination, without distinction or favoritism. He is the source of all whether those who are good, holy and wise or those who, through their own choice and abuse of freedom, have become wicked, crooked or even rebellious against Him. God is Supreme and absolute Good, there is neither evil nor bad in him. Therefore, He cannot not to love and care for his creatures because that is His nature. God really cares for us. But sometimes we do not realize that. We become blind or indifferent of what He is doing in our life.

The readings of today talk and focus on this matter. God knows our situations and troubles and He listens to our cry. The first reading expresses that very clear when the people of Israel faced difficulties and great torment in their life. The prophet Isaiah gave them courage and made them aware that God will never abandon them whoever they are and whatever they have done: “Yea, O people in Zion who dwell at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when he hears it, he will answer you. And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher.” (Isaiah 30:19-20.)

The same in the Gospel, when Jesus sees the reality of the crowd, like a sheep without shepherd, he felt compassion on them and wholeheartedly ready to help and assist them. He was moved with compassion because He realized the danger that would happen to them. So, He sent his Apostles to be their shepherds and guides to the salvation of their souls. All this shows us how God loves and cares us very much in our situation and circumstance. Do

we realize that God’s care in our life?

There are few situations that can be seen as proofs that God really takes care of us. First of all, God takes care of us by allowing us to enjoy and breathe with his own air freely. We know that human being and any other creature on earth can survive without the air which is God’s. This is very precious and expensive gift that that shows his divinely care for us. Imagine we have to pay all the oxygen we breathe every single second. Who will manage to survive? Therefore we cannot take this for granted.

The second is by giving us good health. We know, health is a great gift from God. We cannot do anything about our physical situation and structure. We try our best to take care of our health but the main provider of good health is God alone. Doctors and medicaments are just means and agents God uses to provide healing and to protect us from sickness and danger.

The third is about his spiritual as well us material providence. Though, life is challenging and tough. We always manage to make our life and be successful in whatever we do. We are successful in our business and jobs not only because of our hard work and our intelligence but for sure God is always behind our success. We can continue the list but let us take a short moment reflecting on our personal and daily lives to see how God cares for us. You will be surprised that you cannot even count the blessings you received from Him. So let us be grateful to Him.
